If you are like me, there are times when you need to escape. As one guy living with a wife and four daughters… need I say more?

There is something about having some time to hang with the guys that helps me stay stable. That’s why I am looking forward to “One Night for Men” next week at Crossroads Church.

One Night for Men will be a great time of talking about “guy stuff.” If you are a man, I hope you will make plans to come.

Ladies, you are not being left out…just delayed one week. July 13 will be our “One Night for Women.” It will be a great night of fellowship and should prove to be a quiet night around the house for me!

I hope you will take advantage of these great opportunities and make plans to bring an unchurched friend . . .

Outnumbered . . .

Pastor Randy

One Night for Men is July 6 at 7:00 pm in the Worship Center (Hwy 154). Create your own ice cream sundae and compete for prizes.

One Night for Women is July 13 at 7:00 pm in the Worship Center (Hwy 154). A panel of men discuss “What Men Wish Women Understood About Them!” Childcare provided for single moms.

Believe it or not I am regularly asked how our giving is going by members of our church. When people ask me this I am generally encouraged. It is a question that shows me these people care about the financial condition of our church. It tells me they understand that ministry takes financial resources and they usually ask because they are highly committed to supporting the ministry of our church. I’ve discovered that people who don’t give don’t typically ask how the giving is going.

As people have asked me about our giving over the past year I have responded by saying, “we are holding steady”. Over the past year we have stayed very close to the budgeted needs of our church. In fact, the financial tab on this blog gives you the most up to date record of our giving. Praise God that we are holding steady rather than losing ground.

When people ask me about our giving this time of the year my response changes slightly. I usually say, “we are holding steady, but summer is coming”. As you probably know giving in churches tends to drop during the summer months. I guess we get distracted by all the stuff we are doing and our giving takes the back seat?

I would like to think that Crossroads Church is different than the typical church. I hope our summer activities don’t affect our commitment to supporting Christ’s church. In fact, wouldn’t it be cool if our giving actually increased in the summer months? Let’s be different! Let’s keep our focus on the priority of resourcing ministry and honor God with our giving.

I’ve heard it said (and it’s a great statement!) that “worship is a human response to a divine intervention”. That is so true when we consider that when we worship God we are responding to the fact that through Jesus God has made a way for us to connect with Him. God initiates, God facilitates, God literally inhabits our worship of Him when we do it in the shadow of the cross – in the complete recognition of the sacrifice He has made to make it possible. That’s why we bring, as the old song states, “a sacrifice of praise”, yet realizing that the true sacrifice was made by Him. That is the ESSENCE of worship.

When we worship God, our EXPRESSION of worship can be many things. We can sing, dance, create, pray, serve, work, play, etc. In fact the book of Colossians it says “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Col. 3:17) So as long our words or deeds are done in the name of the Lord Jesus, and our expression of thankfulness is given through Jesus, then that is our worship.

NEXT WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15 at 7PM (HWY 16 campus) we will begin our ONE NIGHTS Summer events with “ONE NIGHT FOR WORSHIP” a night dedicated to Christ-centered, God-honoring worship. I encourage you, your family, your small group to attend together. We will be expressing our worship of God in several different ways, including taking the Lord’s Supper.

I hope to see you next Wednesday at 7. And don’t be late – you do not want to miss one single second of this opportunity to worship God together!!

In Him,

This summer we are once again hosting a series of “One Night” events for our church! We hope that these One Nights will make you laugh, cause you to think, and encourage you to stay focused on the relationships and issues that matter most. So, invite a friend or two to come with you. Enjoy connecting with some old friends and some new acquaintances. You never know what might happen!

One Night for Worship
June 15
Hwy 16 @ 7 pm

Worship.
Simple.
Clean.
Pure.
Our worship team will be leading us in various expressions of worship. We will celebrate God’s power, His provision, and His magnificence—we will worship Him! This will be a memorable and meaningful way to start your summer!

One Night for Couples
June 22
Hwy 154 @7 pm

We will be catering a meal for you on this night! Pre-registration and $20 payment must be made in advance at Guest Services at either campus or online at www.crossroadsnewnan.org. Childcare is available with registration. We hope you will invite an un-churched couple as your guests. You can register them on-line as well and bring them at no cost!

We have invited Mike and Angie Keaton to be our guest speakers on this night. Mike and Angie are working with the Crossroads Church Planting Network to plant a church in Walton County. Their life experiences of pursuing an education, planting a church and rearing two children make them a must see! Their sense of humor will make you laugh, their authentic faith will keep humble, and their commitment to marriage will challenge you to keep yours healthy.

One Night for Men
July 6
Hwy 154 @7 pm

Come hang out with the guys as we talk about guy stuff! You’ll be able to make your own ice cream sundae, compete to win some cool prizes, and perhaps think about the things that matter most in life.

One Night for Women
July 13
Hwy 154 @ 7 pm

Last year we selected women with a variety of life experiences who were in different seasons of life to sit on a panel discussion and talk about Real Issues Women Face. This year we are turning the tables! We are inviting a panel of men to come and share their thoughts and perspectives on “What Men Wish Women Understood About Them!” And, hey, you’ll get to make your own ice cream sundae too!

Around the World in One Night
July 20
Hwy 16 @ 7 pm

Sometimes we forget that there’s a world outside of Coweta County—or for that matter outside of the United States!

What is God doing, right now, to advance his Kingdom around the world?

We have invited Andrew Scott, the President of Operation Mobilization USA, which is headquartered in Tyrone, to come and share from his wisdom and perspective stories from around the globe. Our hope is that your vision for the world will be broadened, your compassion for people will be deepened, and that your feet will be compelled.

“What’ll ya have?”
The Varsity, a definite cultural experience, will be on campus this evening with their mobile restaurant so that you can your family can grab some dinner and chat with your friends before the program.

One Night of Prayer
July 27

This night will be an integral part of our annual Week of Prayer when we set aside a week to seek the Lord’s will and direction for our church. This night will be filled with praise and worship. You won’t want to miss this night!

One Night of Vision
August 3

At the beginning of each ministry year we call the congregation together to renew our commitment to God’s vision for his church. On this night Pastor Ken will share from his heart the big picture vision of Crossroads Church as well as communicating some specific initiatives to keep us moving forward.

As a student pastor, I am always looking for ways to invest in the lives of students. I love being around students and I love helping them become all that God has created them to be. One of the hurdles that limits me, or any ministry from really making an impact in a student’s life is TIME. Yes, we are all limited by time—that should not be a big epiphany to anyone. I have this number that plays around in my head—a number that haunts and motivates me. The number is 156. To me, this number represents the number of hours that I have to impact a middle school students life if they come 1 hour a week to one of our environments for the full three years of their middle school career. That is not a lot of time to impact them. So again, this number haunts me and drives me to be on the look out for ways to get more time with students.

One of the best ways, I have found, to find additional time to be around students in by taking them to summer camp. Summer Camp is a full week where you can focus on helping students become all that God desires for them. That is why I encourage every family to at least consider allowing their middle school and high school student to attend our student ministry summer camps. Both the middle school and high school will be conducting their own summer camps—tailored made for our students.

Here are the details for both camps:
Middle School Summer Camp—Camp “Survivor” will be at Camp Skipstone in Griffin, Ga. on July 25-29. The cost of the camp is $215. This camp is for rising 6th graders thru rising 8th graders.

High School Summer Camp—Camp “Fanatic” will be at Laguna Beach Christian Resort in Florida on July 18-22. The cost of the camp is $290. This camp is for rising 9th graders thru graduating seniors.

You can obtain registration forms at www.crossroadsnewnan.org or at any guest services desk at either campus.

Please note that there are discounts for sending multiple siblings to camp and during the week of June 4th-12th, any student who signs up to go to camp will receive $30 off the price.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to partner with you as you raise your student to be a devoted follower of Jesus Christ.

WE are….Summer is here….well…almost here. It’s so close that you can taste it and we can’t wait! Now before you get lost in visions of Cannonballs, Jackknives and Cookouts, let me fill your mind with visions of some incredible stuff Kids and some lucky adults and students are going to be doing at Crossroads this summer.

May is a beautiful time of year! The flowers are starting to bloom, the grass is turning green, and the 70-80 degree weather is perfect. The only problem with all of that is May means everyone’s schedule is packed full. May means graduation, and your little princess or your young boy has grown up and become and adult. Its the time of year where moms and dads look at their sons or daughters and ask the question “where did the time go?”

Graduation is a special time. A time for us to remember all the achievements that our students have accomplished. The goals they have set and the dreams that they will chase are all now becoming a reality. A time to reflect and how God has shaped and molded them into the people he wants them to be. Its a wonderful time to celebrate!

In our church we make it a priority to celebrate with our graduating seniors. On May 21 & 22 we will be showing a slideshow in our services to honor our graduates. Also our high school ministry will be giving away water bottles at both Northgate and East Coweta High School Graduations. We would love for you to be a part of that by donating water bottles! You can bring them to either campus during the week or during our schedule weekend services. The truth is may is a great time of year, where you get a chance to see the power of our God in the beauty of his creation and by the works he has done in our students lives as they progress as young adults.

So you have heard that our new service times are kickin’ off this weekend -

7:00 pm Saturday (Hwy 16)

9:00 am Sunday (Hwy 16) <—– NEW TIME

10:00 am Sunday (Hwy 154) <—– NEW TIME

11:15 am Sunday (Hwy 16)

This means if you attend the 9:00 am or 10:00 am service, you will receive AN EXTRA 15 MINUTES to be used any way you like the rest of the day!!! But how will you use it? I’m glad you asked! Here are 15 suggestions for how you can use your extra 15 minutes…

Pray. Count your blessings. That alone will take at least 15 minutes if you’re thorough.

Read your Bible. (never a waste of time!)

Journal. Write a blog like this one! (hopefully better than this one…)

Get some exercise. Run, canoe, bungee jump, etc.

Write a ‘thank you’ note. Surely someone in your life is due one…

Do nothing at all. Just sit and relax.

Clean out your ‘inbox’. Or clean in your ‘outbox’. (?)

Bake some chocolate chip cookies for your favorite worship leader.

Spend time with your kids. Ask them questions. They love that.

Jazzercise!!!

Watch the Milk Dud video 3 times!

Email us how you used the envelopes with the money and invite cards for our Easter Services.

Bake some chocolate chip cookies for your favorite worship leader. (did I use that one already?)

Take a walk on the cool, new trails at the HWY 16 campus.

________________??? (leaving this one blank for you to come with your own – mostly because I can’t think of another one…)

Well there you have it. And remember, to claim your extra 15 minutes, you have to be on time to the 9:00 am and 10:00 am service. Coming in 15 minutes late is not fair (but that’s between you and God).

See you this weekend!
